Diabetes mellitus (DM), commonly referred to as diabetes, is a group of metabolic disorders in which there are high blood sugar levels over a prolonged period. Prevention and treatment involve maintaining a healthy diet, regular physical exercise, a normal body weight, and avoiding use of tobacco.

Most Common Types

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition that affects the way the body processes blood sugar (glucose).
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin.
Gestational diabetes is a form of high blood sugar affecting pregnant women.
